What is levocarnitine
Levocarnitine is the biologically active form of carnitine, a substance the body uses to carry long-chain fatty acids into the mitochondria, where they are used for energy production. When the body cannot produce or retain enough carnitine, a carnitine deficiency can occur.
Injectable levocarnitine is used in hospital and specialist settings, for example in patients with primary or secondary carnitine deficiency, including patients on haemodialysis.
